The rematch never happened. Zhao Yicheng赵一程Zhào Yīchéng was the fastest man in qualification at 4.64 and went out in the quarter-final, third in his four-lane heat behind Zhou Ziyu周子羽Zhōu Zǐyǔ and Ryo Omasa. Watson went out in the quarter-final too, in 7.08, and finished tenth, one place behind Zhao. Zach Hammer fell in the round of 16.
Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi won the final in 4.65, ahead of Ling Yongzhi零勇志Líng Yǒngzhì and Chu Shouhong储守宏Chǔ Shǒuhóng.
Emma Hunt topped women's qualification in 6.07 and went out in the quarter-final. Deng Lijuan邓丽娟Dèng Lìjuān won in 6.14, ahead of Polina Khalkevych and Jeong Jimin.
The world record fell in the relay instead. Ling Yongzhi and Zhao Yicheng ran 9.58 in the men's semi-final, both legs in 4.79, and won the final in 9.67. Fan Jingyue and Zhang Shaoqin张少琴Zhāng Shàoqín won the women's relay. Indonesia's Raharjati Nursamsa and Rajiah Sallsabillah won the mixed, with Watson and Hunt taking bronze.
Ling Yongzhi and Zhao Yicheng set the men's relay world record of 9.58s in the semi-final, both legs in 4.79, then won the final in 9.67s.
Austria's Kevin Amon and Lukas Windischer took bronze over Canada in the small final.
Times are from each team's medal race: Korea's 13.43s won the small final, Spain's 14.57s was the final.
Indonesia won the mixed relay. The United States, world record holders in the event, took bronze in the small final.
