Emma Hunt made history in the Kraków quarter-finals on July 4, 2026, stopping the clock at 5.99s to become the first woman ever to break the six-second barrier. It was the culmination of years spent chipping at the American record and closing the gap on the dominant Chinese, Polish and Indonesian women.
The record run did not end in gold, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi took the Kraków final, but it confirmed Hunt as the fastest woman the sport has produced. She is also half of the first Speed Mixed Relay world record, pairing with Sam Watson for a 10.89s run that gave the USA a landmark in both the men's and women's game.
